PlaceIMG

We created and operated PlaceIMG for ten years - a placeholder image service that served hundreds of millions of images before we stopped counting.

PlaceIMG was a side project we built for our own purposes.

After many years, it became apparent this wasn't an ROI driver in any way. We weren't getting new work, we weren't selling ads, its existence wasn't leading us to anything new. PlaceIMG was just there and costing more and more every month to keep the server running.

So in July 2023, after serving hundreds of millions of images over a decade, we decided it was time to send placeIMG to the great archive in the sky.

There are plenty of other placeholder image services out there now, as well as image generation tools like MidJourney.
